We all love sugar but we also know that the sweet taste comes at a price. Price in the form of calories and sugar is full of them. Just one teaspoon of sugar contains 16 calories and the average American consumes 22.2 teaspoons of sugar a day which amounts to 355 calories. This knowledge, combined with the fact that all of us watch our weight at one point or another, had us reaching for the artificial sweeteners. What was not to like?
